Hand out

We chose to do a fold out piece to give away at the exhibit. We will have to create two allowing three people to have two panels to display their work. We also plan to have the visual on the front so it folds out to be a poster. Along with the type about our personal take on the theme of DNA going on the back.

These are two designs I created but we have now chosen to go with the panels so my measurements will now have to change to 105 x 74.25mm. I like both designs but the second one goes best with the theme I have chosen.

We also plan to give our foldouts away in plastic bags that also contain earbuds to represent swabs & a latex glove.

Shelve Decorations

Using food colouring & water to fill Conical flasks & petri dishes to dress the shelves.

Scraping dirty swabs in petri dishes to create interesting patterns.

Collect free Clymidia test packets & use the tubes and maybe create our own leaflets.

Create our own pill packets & symbols to put on there with other valid information about DNA & the human genetics.

Block

My attempt at using Jenga pieces to create a solid cube. This did work well but if the sides do not measure to the exact cm I will have to resort to using another material.

Evaluation

For this project we where given the theme of DNA. We had to create a blog alongside something to display at the end of year show.

We where introduced to the project by going to the ‘Wellcome’ exhibit in London where I saw several pieces which inspired me. I began with looking at DNA Profiling, which I had seen at the exhibit. After researching I had come across several sites, which calculate percentages of your ethnic background. I chose to change my route, as I would have to pay over £100 to get a result. So I moved onto my family tree and looked at book that was written about my family in Jamaica. I then looked at what DNA actually was, but then became intrigued on seeing what u inherit physically instead of genetically. This then lead me to Siblings as you can get so many different outcomes for a mix of two people.

Now I had found the theme which to base my project on ‘Potential Siblings’. I then began researching hereditary features, gender influences and chromosomes. Along with artists such ass Idris Khan, Gina Glover and Linsey Nolin: I was also very inspired by Cubism.I chose an abstract take on my project as I wanted to stick to a theme of uncertainty.

I have chosen to create an abstract A2 poster of myself to display at my end of year show. I’m also creating two acetate A2 size images hanging one in front of the other & broken up. To conclude my theme of ‘Potential Siblings’ I am displaying six outcomes on a dice. The reason for this is to show how unpredictable it is to know what your child may look like.

Matisse

Matisse's work can be described as bold, unrealistic, experimental and vibrant.

& was known to have travelled a lot which allowed him to be inspired by places such as new york & south France.

He tended to use materials such as paint on canvas and paper cut outs later on which is what I personally like.

Matisse until this day is influencing people from the ipod adverts to the 2010 Olympics logo.

With or Without?

I personally Think it looks best with the text just in the background as the image is missing something when its left plain.

I have over lapped the image with text from the book 'From Harvey River' which is about my family to add depth but I am unsure of how well it works and if it is relevant.
